Sanjay K. Pandey is a Shapiro Professor of Public Policy and Public Administration at Trachtenberg School, The George Washington University.  Professor Pandey’s scholarship focuses on public policy and public administration, and deals with questions central to leading and managing public organizations. Professor Pandey directed two landmark surveys of public organizations (Phase II and Phase IV of the National Administrative Studies Project). Professor Pandey’s scholarship has been recognized with numerous awards.  Two of his co-authored articles are included among the Public Administration Review’s 75 most influential articles (This selection includes contributions from eminent scholars including Herbert Simon and Elinor Ostrom). Professor Pandey was awarded the NASPAA/ASPA Distinguished Research Award in 2013, an award recognizing “substantial impact on public administration.” In 2014, Professor Pandey was elected a Fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration. In 2022, Professor Pandey was honored with the H. George Frederickson Award for Career Contributions to Public Management Research. In 2023, Professor Pandey was honored with the Dwight Waldo Award for distinguished career contributions to public administration, and the Herbert Simon Award for distinguished contributions to the scientific study of bureaucracy.  An extended version of Professor Pandey’s Herbert Simon Lecture titled, “Elevating subjective individual experience in public policy and public administration: Reflections on red tape, administrative burden, and sludge” was published in the Public Administration Review. In 2024, Professor Pandey was awarded the Honey W. Nashman Spark A Life for Faculty Member of the Year Award for positive mentoring relationships and impact on holistic development of students.  At George Washington University, Professor Pandey, in collaboration with colleagues, has convened several academic conferences bringing together leading academic researchers from US and abroad. He is co-founder and convener of the Mixed Methods Research Interest Group at the George Washington University.
