Information on Pi Alpha Alpha
About
Pi Alpha Alpha is the global honor society for public affairs and administration. Its purpose is to encourage and recognize outstanding scholarship and accomplishment in public affairs and administration, and its objectives, such as fostering integrity, professionalism, and effective performance, promote the advancement of quality in the education and practice of the art and science of public affairs and administration. There are more than 160 chapters located around the world at NASPAA member schools.
Each year, the Trachtenberg School recognizes its Pi Alpha Alpha inductees at an April event, where an accomplished public servant is also honored and speaks about an important issue facing our future public administrators. Since the chapter’s creation in 1977, more than 1,000 graduates from the Trachtenberg School have been inducted into the society.
Eligibility
- A GPA at the Trachtenberg School of 3.70 or higher;
- Completed a minimum of 21 credits;
- Performed at least eight hours of public service during their time at the Trachtenberg School, which will be self-certified by the student. (One way to satisfy this requirement is by participating in the MLK Day of Service and Leadership.)
Procedures for Induction of New Members
All eligible students will be sent an application form early in the spring semester, which should be completed by the stated deadline. As part of the application, the student will need to certify that they have fulfilled the service requirement for initiation. If selected, the student will receive a nomination letter and invitation to participate in the ceremony to join Pi Alpha Alpha.
Induction Ceremony
The next induction ceremony and dinner will be held on Friday, April 14, 2023, from 6 to 8 PM. The induction ceremony will be free for each inductee and a guest. Additional guests are welcome but will charged $30 each to cover the cost of dinner.
