Why did you choose the Trachtenberg School?

I chose the Trachtenberg School because it allowed me to specialize in Program Evaluation and because it is located in the heart of DC, where I could have the opportunity to network with people form the top places where I wanted to work.

Looking back, what are the most valuable skills, tools, or aha-moments you gained at Trachtenberg that you still rely on today?

One of the most valuable lessons I gained at Trachtenberg was learning that credible evidence comes from combining quantitative and qualitative methods rather than relying on a single approach. The program gave me a strong foundation in statistical analysis, qualitative research, and mixed-methods evaluation, and showed me how to integrate these tools to answer complex policy and development questions. That realization continues to guide my work as an evaluator today: rigorous evidence is not just about methodological sophistication, but about choosing the right methods and combining them in ways that produce useful, actionable insights for decision-makers.

In what ways did the Trachtenberg community—whether professors, peers, or alumni—support or influence your career?

The Trachtenberg community had a profound influence on both my professional and personal growth. Learning alongside a diverse group of students broadened my perspective and exposed me to experiences and viewpoints that continue to shape how I approach evaluation and public policy. I was also fortunate to build lasting friendships with classmates and professors who remain part of my professional network today. I am especially grateful to Kathy Newcomer, my dissertation advisor, whose mentorship extended far beyond technical expertise. She taught me not only how to be a better evaluator, but also the importance of humility, empathy, and integrity when working with people and communities. Her example reinforced my passion for evaluation and continues to inspire how I approach both my work and my career.
