We are truly saddened to share that Professor Joe Cordes passed away Feb. 26. His loss is huge for our community.

Joe was foundational in creating our TSPPPA community. He served as Associate Director as well as Director of our School, and earlier as Chair of the Economics Department and as Associate Dean for CCAS. He was very key in establishing the Regulatory Studies Center here in our school. And he was also a long time elected member of the GW Faculty Senate.

Joe was always very supportive of our faculty, students and alumni and served on many doctoral dissertations.  He was so delighted to see our alumni thrive - he was an avid Facebook follower!

He consistently demonstrated his great compassion for our community and our work.

Speaking personally, Joe was one of most brilliant people I have ever known, and quite a dedicated feminist. He was also extremely devoted to his family.

Joe will be celebrated in a funeral Mass at St. Mary of Sorrows Church on Thursday, March 5 at 11:00 AM.  The church is  located at 10500 Zion Rd in Fairfax  22032.

The Cordes family suggests contributions to important services be made, rather than flowers. For example,  Joe supported the Salvation Army, Jose Andres World Central Kitchen, Covenant House, Toys for Tots, and the  St. Ignatius Church in San Francisco.

Joe will be sorely missed by the many, many colleagues whose lives he touched.
