What initially inspired you to pursue a career in public service or policy, and how did your time at the Trachtenberg School shape that path?

I was inspired to pursue a career in public policy because I was always taught that in order to change the system, you have to be the system; however, I realized that was not true in every sense, and that in order to be the change you wanted to see in this world, it starts with policy. Everything is political, down to the chair you sit in. My time at the Trachtenberg School shaped that path by reinforcing the tools I had learned at my HBCU. It helped me think differently and familiarize myself in different arenas. 

What does being named a Trachtenberg Alumni Impact Honoree mean to you personally?

Being named a Trachtenberg Alumni Honoree speaks to the tools that the school instilled in me and helped pivot my career to new heights. I am forever grateful for the challenge. 

What does leadership mean to you?

Leadership means lifting as you climb and giving future leaders guidance to one day be in your place and be successful at it. 

Can you walk us through a pivotal moment in your career that helped define the work you’re doing today?

A pivotal moment was when I was full-time in my graduate program and full-time on the Hill. It was not recommended, and it was hard to do, but I did it and succeeded. From there, I knew I could do anything I put my mind to and could take on any challenge Capitol Hill threw at me. 

Who or what has influenced your approach to public service or leadership?

I have helped and watched interns turn into directors and shoot to new heights, all from advice I and many others gave them. I continue to pour into the next generation of thought leaders at all levels.
