Why did you choose the Trachtenberg School?
I chose the Trachtenberg School because of its outstanding reputation and its location in the heart of Washington, D.C. I wanted a program that combined academic excellence with practical experience, and there is no better place to study public policy than where it is developed every day. As someone committed to public service, I was drawn to Trachtenberg's strong curriculum and the opportunity to learn from faculty who were experienced practitioners and leaders in their fields.
Looking back, what are the most valuable skills, tools, or aha-moments you gained at Trachtenberg that you still rely on today?
Trachtenberg strengthened my analytical thinking, leadership, and decision-making skills, all of which I rely on every day in public finance. The greatest impact came from professors who were practitioners and connected theory to real-world challenges. Professor Dwight Cropp, in particular, was an outstanding mentor whose guidance encouraged critical thinking and principled leadership. The program also reinforced the importance of collaboration, effective communication, and evidence-based decision-making. Those lessons continue to guide me as I lead teams, manage complex financial operations, and support sound public policy.
In what ways did the Trachtenberg community—whether professors, peers, or alumni—support or influence your career?
The Trachtenberg community created an environment where everyone wanted to see each other succeed. My professors were engaging, approachable, and genuinely invested in my professional growth, while my classmates brought diverse experiences that challenged my thinking and broadened my perspective. Learning alongside peers from various backgrounds reinforced the value of collaboration and lifelong learning. The relationships I built at Trachtenberg continue to influence how I lead today, reminding me that the best solutions often come from listening to and learning from others.
