What Happens to Your Application After You Submit It?

The Columbian College of Arts and Sciences (CCAS) oversees The Trachtenberg School of Public Policy and Public Administration, including the admissions process.

  • All application materials are submitted online through the online application system. Materials are received by the Columbian College where the application file is assembled.
    • Application materials that are too large to be uploaded into the online application system should be sent directly to CCAS.
  • Only complete application files are sent to the Trachtenberg School for review:
    • Every program in the Trachtenberg School considers applicants for fall admission primarily. The majority of admission decisions are made in February and March.
  • The Admissions Committee then reviews the application and makes a recommendation to Columbian College (recommend to admit, deny or wait list).
  • Applications are then returned to the CCAS Admissions Office where final decisions are made.
  • Applicants are advised of the decision online as well as by mailed hard copy. If you are admitted, you will receive a letter informing you of that action along with your student reply form with a deadline for response.
  • The review of wait-listed applicants for the fall semester typically starts after June 1.

To check the status of your application, please log into your online account.

The days immediately preceding application deadlines are the busiest; there may be delays in the mail system impeding the timely receipt of your materials. To avoid this, you can submit materials ahead of the deadline. Application materials are kept on file at the CCAS Admissions Office for one calendar year.

International Applicants

International applicants who are recommended for admission, and who submit their financial certificate with their application for admission, will receive the official letter of admission and student reply form.

International applicants who are recommended for admission, and who did not submit their financial certificate with their application for admission, will receive a letter stating that the admission decision is contingent upon receipt (by CCAS) of the financial certificate. Once the certificate is received, the official letter of admission and student reply form will be mailed.

International applicants cannot be considered for the Graduate Certificate in Nonprofit Management program. Due to the structure of the coursework, students in this program may only be part-time students. International applicants therefore cannot be certified as a full-time student for the entire year for visa purposes.
